The Swan at Lavenham is the principal supporter of the Festival and the setting for our renowned Literary Dinner.
The 15th Century Swan Hotel combines comfort and warmth with its oak-beamed interiors, open fires and contemporary luxury. The three houses from which this memorable timbered inn was developed date from 1425, and include the Guildhall of the Guild of Our Lady, known today as the Woolhall.
A Roll of Honour of fighter and bomber pilots from the RAF and US Army Air Corps who were stationed in Lavenham during the Second World War is on display in the bar.
The Lavenham Literary Festival dinner traditionally takes place in the Gallery Restaurant of the Swan on the Friday evening of the Festival weekend. The Swan offers a warm welcome to everyone and preferential rates for those staying overnight for the Literary Festival.
“The Swan has the soft glow of an old Dutch painting”, Hammond Innes, 1965
