Listen to Michael Morpurgo reading an extract from The Butterfly Lion

Bertie rescues an orphaned white lion cub from the African veld. They are inseparable until Bertie is sent to boarding school far away in England and the lion is sold to a circus. Much more happens to Bertie and to the Lion, before they are reunited.

This is a reading from Michael's Private Peaceful.
The main characters in the story are Charlie and Tommo Peaceful, brothers who decide to fight in the First World War. The story is told by Tommo and follows twenty-four hours at the front, but Tommo also remembers his life and that of his family and village. In the audio you hear the first chapter; but if you want to listen and learn more about this book, go to this BBC link.

Listen to Zeb Soanes reading a brief extract from Gaspard: Best In Show. Do you read aloud? It's fun making sure the characters have different voices. Notice how Zeb's reading really brings snooty Peter to life! And what wonderful words Peter uses.

And here is a longer reading from Gaspard: Best in Show. Gaspard has a completely different way of speaking. How would you describe Gaspard?

James Mayhew, illustrator of Gaspard, also writes and illustrates many other stories. Here he is, reading a Spanish folk tale about a chick...

James reads the very first Ella Bella Ballerina book

Here James introduces you to Katie and her grandmother, as they go to a gallery.
